Resolution # 2005-01

TITLE: Alaska Inter-Tribal Council support of the formation of the “Alaska Tribes Indian Child Welfare Unit,” and inclusion of its identification of it’s representatives from the twelve geographical areas at our annual convention.

WHEREAS, the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council (AITC) is a statewide consortium of sovereign tribes sharing a common bond of unique cultures, languages, spirituality, and traditional values, established in 1992 to advocate for the inherent rights of tribes in Alaska, and

WHEREAS, the Native Village of Eklutna has proposed that the 229 recognized tribes take over Alaska’s Native and American Indian child protection services from the State of Alaska Office of Children Services, under a Statewide “Tribal /State Compact Agreement,” and

WHEREAS, within Native Village of Eklutna’s proposal they identify the AITC Annual Convention as the place all twelve geographical areas should identify their area representative for the coming year of operations of the Alaska Tribes Indian Child Welfare Unit, (ATICWU).

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the AITC does hereby support the formation of the “Alaska Tribes Indian Child Welfare Unit” and inclusion of its identification of representatives from the twelve geographical areas at our annual convention.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall be the policy of AITC until it is withdrawn or modified by subsequent resolution.

CERTIFICATION
The foregoing resolution was adopted at the 2005 Annual Convention of the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council, held at the Coast International, in Anchorage, Alaska on 7 December , 2005 with a quorum present.
