ALASKA INTER-TRIBAL COUNCIL
Resolution 2006-07
ENTITLED: a resolution asking for support from the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council in protecting our fish and wildlife and water resources from gold mining pollutions.
WHEREAS, the Native Community of Tuluksak is a Federally recognized tribe; and
WHEREAS, the Native Community of Tuluksak’s Governing body is a Federally recognized village council; and
WHEREAS, from time immortal, the Native Community of Tuluksak tribe have lived and depended on fish and wildlife and water resources along the Tuluksak river; and
WHEREAS, the Tuluksak Native Community have relied on the Tuluksak river for drinking water; and
WHEREAS, since mining activities have started, the water has been progressively undrinkable; and
WHEREAS, the Tuluksak Native Community members have to go down to the main Kuskokwim river at least 1 mile or so to get to their drinking water; and
WHEREAS, the Gold Mining activities in the headwaters of Tuluksak, have in the past, damaged our water resources, the fish spawning grounds in the headwater of Tuluksak river and wildlife along the Tuluksak river.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that AI-TC does hereby…the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council board of directors accept this resolution and support the Native Community of Tuluksak tribe in their effort to prevent damaging the water resources, the fish and wildlife from Gold mining activities on the headwaters of Tuluksak river.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this resolution shall be the policy of AI-TC until it is withdrawn or modified by subsequent resolution.
CERTIFICATION
The foregoing resolution was adopted at the 2006 Annual Convention of the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council, held at the Millennium Alaskan Hotel, in Anchorage, Alaska on December 19, 2006 with a quorum present.
